Biography
Catherine Daunt is the Hamish Parker Curator of Modern and Contemporary Graphic Art at the British Museum. She works across the Museum’s collection of Western prints and drawings made in the 20th and 21st centuries, with a particular interest in British and American art. Catherine joined the British Museum in 2014 and worked as co-curator on the 2017 exhibition ‘The American Dream: pop to the present’. She has since written a book about the collection of film critic Alexander Walker (1930–2003), who bequeathed his collection of modern and contemporary works on paper to the Museum.
Prior to joining the British Museum, Catherine worked as Assistant Curator at the National Portrait Gallery, London, and Assistant Exhibition Officer at Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery. In 2014 she completed a PhD on ‘Portrait Sets in Tudor and Jacobean England’ at the University of Sussex in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery. Despite having now shifted professional focus to modern and contemporary art, she retains an interest in this area of British art and in portraiture from all periods. She is also interested in the history of collectors and collecting.
