Distinguished African and Africana Studies Scholars: Intellectual Contributions and Critical Engagement

Ama Mazama (Series Editor)

African and African American Studies have been in existence for several decades and have considerably increased their presence and impact in the academic world through institutionalization, in particular, the creation of academic journals, conferences, and graduate programs. This series provides intellectual and systematic engagement of scholars who have made significant contributions to the establishment of African and Africana Studies and the intellectual and political lineages in these areas from the 1960s to the present. While there may be a few essays devoted to the work of some of those scholars, such essays remain few and scattered. This series thus seeks to fill this void by identifying and placing those scholars in their proper historical and intellectual context; conducting a close reading of their works; and assessing their contributions to African and Africana Studies. In so doing, the books published in this series will coalesce to form a body of reliable and conveniently accessible information about key intellectuals, while deepening our understanding of the developments that have led to the emergence and strengthening of African and Africana Studies worldwide.
